Personally Crafted Skin Care
When Kate Apaflo received an unsettling health diagnosis, her own personal journey to a remedy soon found its way to the creation of a luxrious, conscientious skin care brand. In 2013, Kate decided to use her degree in applied biology and background in quality control for a major chocolate manufacturer to create Natural Treats Luxury, a shea butter skin care line sourcing directly from women's cooperatives in Northern Ghana. Herself a mother of three, Kate made other ethical changes to her own lifestyle which trickled down to her company. She insists, for instance, on no artificial ingredients and paying the women's cooperatives above market price for their shea butter. Thus, by rediscovering the skin and hair care ingredients of her foremothers, Kate nurtured a brand that also champions and improves the lives of women and mothers in rural areas of Ghana.

Why did you start your business?
I was once diagnosed with a health issue. So there was a cause for me to change my diet and lifestyle. This directed me back to what our forefathers used, Shea Butter. I had an issue with the natural smell as it was too strong for me. I then decided to add fragrance and that’s how Natural Treats started
What motivates you to keep going?
The difference I’m making; the feedback I get from current customers. And yes the women I’m able to help. Their smiles and all.
What do you wish people knew about your business?
The fact that we buy the ingredients above market price from these women in the rural areas so they are able to make more. Also each product has been well tested, identically crafted and I use them personally.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I pray. My relationship with God is very key to me.
What is your favorite detoxing regiment?
That would be a fast. Be it from food, social media or my phone.
What are you most grateful for?
I’m grateful for life.
What’s the last thing you do before going to bed?
I pray.
What makes you awesome?
My authenticity. I’m a loving person, warm and passionate.
Do you have a favorite mantra?
I actually don’t have a particular one. Every situation I’ve been has a favorite mantra to go with
But I’d say “We are not created to be just one thing, we need to come out of the mold”.
What do you love most about Africa?
The music, culture and the warmth.
What frustrates you most about Africa?
People’s timing here. Lol! I have joined them because I can't beat them.
